National Rally 2022

We are disappointed to report that St Audries won’t be able to host our 2022 National as previously planned. We have managed to find a replacement site at Whitehill Country Park in Paignton for the same dates. This is where we held the hugely successful 2018 National. Everyone who booked for the National will receive an email or letter advising them of the change and options. Andy, Maggie, Colin and Amanda are working with Whitehill Park to gather prices and info. We thank members for their patience whilst we get this sorted and look forward to holding an excellent National in 2022.

Triumph 2000 Register National Postponed Again

The Register has decided, very reluctantly, that it will once again not be possible to hold our national rally this year. In making this decision we have considered many things, including:

  • The risk of running the event only one week after the proposed date for the lifting of restrictions in England is just too great.
  • St Audries have just told us that they have decided not to reopen the main building (bar, restaurant, etc.) this year. The chalets are not self-catering and they therefore rely on the St Audries kitchen for their meals (breakfast at least, and probably their evening meal too), which of course is in the main building. The Saturday evening entertainment and the AGM on Sunday morning are also important indoor activities.
  • We have members from overseas and other parts of the UK, whose governments have different timetables for the relaxation of lockdown restrictions.
  • It would be very difficult to organise many of the planned activities while the lockdown is still in force.

On a more positive note, we will be able to hold the event at the same venue in 2022, although it will be slightly earlier. The next Triumph 2000 / 2500 / 2·5 Register “National” will therefore be held at St Audries Bay Holiday Club from Monday 6th June to Monday 13th June 2022.

This was an extremely difficult and painful decision, but with the gradual improvement of the COVID-19 situation we should be able to look forward to a “third time lucky” gathering in June 2022.

Triumph Picnic September 19th

Martin Johnson-Howe of the Pre-1940 Triumph Club has asked me to notify you on the date and venue for the Standard Triumph Picnic for 2021. The outdoor site will be free to enter for our members between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm.

Martin has booked the Mercure Walton Hall Hotel and Spa in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire on Sunday 19th September 2021. The event was originally scheduled for May 9th but has had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

MG & Triumph Spares Day 2021 – New Venue

The annual gathering that forms the season opener for Triumph Buffs  will next year not be held at Stoneleigh. The Telford International Centre TF3 4JA is the new venue, the date for your diary being Sunday 7th February 2021.

We understand that the change in venue may be down to an increase in the number of units being let to businesses (due to the lack of Show revenue) as a result of the Pandemic.

International Drive your Triumph Day 2021

Members may be interested in a global activity organised by Rye Livingston in the USA:

Dear Fellow Triumph Owner,

One thing that has remained constant in this crazy pandemic year, is the pleasure to social distance by taking a drive in your Triumph.  So, with that in mind, it’s time to plan a social distance activity for Drive Your Triumph Day, February 10, 2021.

My name is Rye Livingston and I’m with the Triumph Travelers Sports Car Club in Northern California, which is celebrating our 62nd anniversary.

As you may remember a number of years ago, I encouraged members of our club to drive their Triumphs on February 10th, to celebrate Sir John Black’s Birthday, the man who organized Standard’s purchase of Triumph after the war, and went on to make the cars we enjoy driving today.

Last year I received about 350 photos from all over the world: Scotland, Ireland, the UK, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Uruguay, Netherlands, Switzerland, Finland, Canada, Holland, Czech Republic, and of course all over the USA.  I’m hoping we can increase that number this year!

The concept is straightforward. On Wednesday, February 10th, go for a drive in your Triumph.  Take a scenic drive on a country road or out to lunch, to the market, to work, wherever. Go for a drive alone or in a big group from your local Triumph Club. Take your spouse, buddy, child, grandchild or your dog; then take a photo. The photo is mainly of the car, and the owner if possible, ideally in front of a cool spot, landmark, scenic view or in your driveway. If it’s the middle of the winter where you live and your car is in hibernation, or in the middle of a restoration, take a photo of it anyway.

Next step is to email a high-resolution photo to driveyourtriumphday@gmail.com, along with some basic information: owner’s name, year and model of car, and place photo was taken (city, state, country). The photos will then be published not only in our club newsletter, but also in USA’s national magazine: Vintage Triumph Registry, and on the Drive Your Triumph Day website: https://driveyourtriumphday.shutterfly.com

Please feel free to send this on to other Triumph Clubs you may know of, and your club Activities Chairman and Newsletter editor. Last year a few Standard Clubs joined in too, which is great.

Be sure to contact me with any questions you may have, and thank you in advance for getting the message out to your members and friends to Drive Their Triumphs on February 10th.

Regards,

Rye Livingston
