I am fitting a set of 175 carbs with a manifold to a 2000 for a customer.....don't ask!! They are different to the 150 CD carbs I am use to. There is no take off for the vacuum advance on the top, but there is a plastic take off at the bottom of one. The other has a brass plug. Is my assumption correct that this is an alternative position for the same thing?
Additionally, the choke cable now isn't long enough, but is easily modified, but the throttle does not have any sort of brackets of fixings. Can anyone with experience of these carbs give any insight please.

Re: Stromberg CD175 carbs
I can't answer your specific questions, Charles, but my experience in converting from PI to twin 175CD Strombergs on a T2000 manifold, in 1976, was very disappointing. The performance was grim, partly due to the restriction in the manifold but also because I couldn't find needles to suit. I could get good top end running with a poor bottom end, or vice versa, but never a satisfactory full range. The 'S' set-up that I changed to some years later was so much better!
As it happens, I bought the 175 CD carbs, manifold, etc, from SAH Tuning as a "fully validated" kit but it turned out to be utterly useless, with wrong needles, wrong bracketry, wrong cables and unsuitable manifold. I should have sent it all back but I'd modified and replaced so many parts that they wouldn't have accepted its return, trading laws being less strict than now, and in any case I'd sold the original PI equipment (to a reconditioner for £20).
However, after much written and telephoned correspondence, SAH eventually admitted that they hadn't fitted it themselves to any engine and I had been their 'guinea pig'! They gave me a measly £15 in compensation, out of the original cost of £175 which, at the time, would have bought me a new set of PI equipment! What a rubbish company, and thank goodness they no longer exist.

Re: Stromberg CD175 carbs
I moved away from PI because, in 1976, very little was known about the PI system and mine was a constant problem. I took the car to an official PI specialist but they knew less about the system than I did.leesellars wrote:What you've converted a PI to carbs Tut Tut. Whyyyyyyyyy

Having tolerated the SAH bodge for far too long, in the mid 1980s I fitted a low-mileage 2500S engine complete with twin HS6 carbs. This engine has given no trouble at all, it always runs smoothly, and its perfectly happy on unleaded fuel. Whyyyyyyyyy sacrifice all that for a little more power and torque?

Re: Stromberg CD175 carbs
I'm pretty sure the TR250 and TR6C used CD175s so the necessary bits ought to have been sorted by Triumph originally.
RB list some bits for the US version which was with carbs, so maybe there's more info there.
Cheers,
Mike.

SAH stuff maybe poor quality but it still seems to demand a high price!

I looked at the TR5 and 6 stuff, but they appear to have been fitted with CD150s!! It is now running, but the O rings have dried out and they resemble a colander! New O rings required! Getting there very slowly!

That's a ridiculous price to pay for a valve cover! I'd pay not to have SAH appearing anywhere on my Triumph!sahtuning2000 wrote:SAH stuff maybe poor quality but it still seems to demand a high price!

I'd forgotten about your username, sahtuning2000 - No insult intended.
