Trivial question about indicator repeater lamps

#1 Post by Vox »

Trivial this but had to put a second hand indicator repeater lens (the one on the door pillar) on my 72 2000 saloon the other day and noticed that I had a Lucas one on one side and the other make (Sparto is it?) on the other and got to wondering when the change was made from one make to the other.

I obviously don’t know which (if either) of mine was the original and I don’t really think it matters (although I prefer the look of the Lucas one) but was just curious.

I have the 1969 and the 1971 Lucas parts list for Triumphs and neither list an indicator repeater so I guess the change over was after that?

I don't know the true story, but there seem to have been 3 types of repeater lenses. A flat one, a domed one and another one! I have a little tray at home with some of both (or maybe all three types!) but I don't recall which one happenned when. There was a thread on here quite recently about it. You maybe able to find it using the search facility!

Cheers,
Mike.

If you can find the previous topic on this it will answer the queries about the repeater lenses.
And I will stick my neck out Lee and say there were actually only three types - thin flat, thick flat and thick / domed. My understanding is that there are four part numbers; the new style of part numbering when Leyland changed the part numbers to three letters prior to the number, i.e. when ABC1234 replaced 123456, introduced a fourth part number.

This is my understanding as well.

Early (Mk1) thin flat type where the edges get nibbled.
Early Mk2 (and late Mk1?) thick flat type ..... where the edges still get nibbled but not so badly.
Later Mk2 domed type.

Didn't you cure that when you changed your head gasket?
