Hello.
Hello there.
Just joined your forum as we are potentailly looking for a Triumph 2000/2500. I had a Stag for 10 years during the 90's which I loved but had to sell due to 2 growing children. Moved over to Jaguars XJ6's to retain the "made in Britain" interest. Now found myself with a problem with the need to transport a fairly large dog to car shows as we no longer have the benefit of live in dogsitters (aka kids living at home). Ideally seeking an estate car but I am starting to realise they may be quite rare.
Fully appreciate that some might find it sacrilige to place a hound in one of these fine vehicles but there are not many cars that can carry out this task and allow you to travel and participate in classic car events.
I look forward to learning more about these vehicles and any helpful advice you may have in locating a suitable car.
Thanks.
Barry.

Re: Hello.
Hi Barry,
Welcome to our club!
Yes, estates are getting rare, but they do come up for sale now and again!
Nothing wrong with putting doggies in the back of estates, mine (when finished!) will be transporting 2 dogs...... not to mention grass cuttings to the tip and towing duties!
I'm sure you will find all the help you need on here, just ask and we'll help where we can!
Good luck on the hunt!
Alan

Re: Hello.
Thank you Alan.
I look forward to chatting about the marque. Pleased to see that there are also dog lovers on the forum who are not afraid of driving their classics with the mutt (s) on board.
All the best.

Re: Hello.
I used to have an Inca yellow S Estate......... regularly had 2 hounds in the boot!
I remember taking some grass cuttings to the tip in it, and they high viz jacket guy gave me a roasting for using such a lovely car to take rubbish to the tip.
So, I went home.... got the Stag out, filled the back seat with some old wood and went back to the tip... same high viz jacket looked bemused........
So, I went home, put the Stag away, got out the concours PI, found some junk, filled the boot and went back. High viz jacket guy was not very unimpressed.
These things are meant to be used!!
Have a look at the blogs (on the right of your screen!) and check out Colin Radford's estate........... its very nice!
Then, have a look at Mike Weaver's estate......... feel free to drool, we all do!
Are you coming to our National event?.. might be a good place to learn about what to loo for and meet most of us on here?......... details under Nationals under events.......

Re: Hello.
Hi and welcome to the forum.
As Alan rightly say's the cars are for using and enjoying. Also you will find that classic cars and dogs do go well together.
I have had various Triumph marques but have fell for the big six esp the mk1 in both saloon and estate. All my cars have transported my dogs to shows and holidays with a classic caravan in tow.
Admittedly , I did take the red velour seats out and put in caravan and cover the back with sheets as white dog hairs and red interior not a good mix .
Good luck with search for an estate as you rightly say they are becoming scarce but are very good dog carriers and I would like another .

Re: Hello.
As Alan and Lee both say, they are for using.
Our (well Amanda's) estate tows our trailer around the country with both our tent and the show equipment in it. Worse than putting dogs in the car, we carry teenagers in ours!
Next monday we will be taking the estate to Dorset for the National, over 500miles as a round trip and that's before we travel around for a week down there, we did a 240mile round trip in her last week.
We are also doing the club triumph RBRR in october, Alan and Lee (mike weaver also) are on that too, that will be a 2400mile long weekend!
We have done over 30k miles in around 4 1/2 years, all year round driving too and that is without the 10k done in the pi saloon we also have had for 2 1/2 years. Both cars have had easter weekends in France, the estate did the last RBRR and the pi has done a trackday.
Where in the country are you? Someone near you could suggest pointers for you and by the way there is a pi estate on the classifieds of this website.
Good luck, estates are rare and most owners wouldn't sell them or have and regretted it.
Colin.

Re: Hello.
My next priority as far as sorting cars goes is to sort out my estate ....... so that I can carry our 5 border collies around, including going to sheepdog trials when the conditions are not so muddy that we need to use the Rangie in case we get stuck!!

Hello and welcome to the forum!!
Get yourself along to some of the shows or meetings and you will find many members only too happy to show you around there big sixes!!!
I won't be going to the national this year, as I am still on the mend from an accident and can not travel for longer then 30 mins in the car!
Estates are one of the most versitle and practical classic cars you could hope to own, and still have excellent performance to boot.
I have a saloon and regulaly travel with 2 toddlers in mine...... so carrying your mutts would be considereably cleaner!!!!

Re: Hello.
Thank you everyone for the warm welcome.
Without doubt, you are the friendliest bunch of classic car enthusiasts I have encountered.
To answer Colin's question. I am based in Essex. Formely a member of the Essex Stag Owners club from 1993 until 2006, then joined the Jaguar Enthusiast Club after sadly selling the Stag and purchasing a 1995 XJ6 as we needed more space. In hindsight I should have tried to buy an estate then. I went over to Jaguars purely because a long standing friend of mine was the coordinator for the Essex region, I liked the marque and was driving a Jaguar X-Type company car at the time. After returning the X-type when the lease ran out I found that a decent late XJ6 could be picked up for a very reasonable price.
The XJ6 was replaced last year with a late XJS.(not very useful for carrying 2 retired greyhounds !!).
I will be selling this to fund an estate, hopefully a MK2 as there appears to be some features similar to the Stag.
From your replies it looks like your National Day is next week which is a bit unfortunate as our official dogsitter (Eldest Son.) will be on holiday with his girlfriend otherwise we would have popped down to see you all.
Many Thanks
Barry.

Re: Hello.
'The National' is weekend 23/24th June, although a few of us are there from this weekend or monday.
Mk2 estates do have a similar look to the Stag, although the mk2 was launched first, so really the Stag looks like a mk2 and it's only the headlights that are interchangeable, outer panels, grilles, indicator/sidelights etc are all different.
Some people even have Stag engines in their mk2s
