CP or CR engine

#1 Post by simon.williams »

Morning! I have a nice shiny new metering unit from Moss.

I am not going to mess with the pedestal, but does anyone know if my 73 PI is likely to be CP or CR block? The notice says the timing is a little different.

I’m not touching it, but it may reassure me that the alignment of the drive dog is about right.

Thanks!

What engine no. prefix is it? Surely an original PI engine should have a MG prefix? Unless it's previously had a replacement CP / CR engine from a TR.....?

It’s an MG number, I assume the notice I got refers to TR6 blocks.

Anyway - new metering unit now in, new coil fitted, and so far so good! Smooth runnings for now!!! Very happy.

Changing the 20 year old balance tubes might have helped too…

A 1973 2.5PI with twin balance pipes between the throttle bodies (as in your photos) is likely to be a 125bhp unit rather than the earlier 132bhp. I understand the engine change was from engine no. MG75001.

As Johnnydog says, yours is an MG prefix 125bhp engine. Trouble with Moss is they only really have TR5/6 knowledge. Likely to be similar to the CR engined TR6 though. Try talking with KMI Injection who are the people that do a lot of the re-building of fuel injection systems. Google them.

They reckon the pump sounds like its struggling to get fuel, so I need to check the filter and the pipes from the tank.
