Quill shaft trouble?

When I saw my local Triumph agent do it (I told you it was a long time ago), they didn't move the diff at all. They disconnected the prop, removed the flange, circlip and bearing with everything still on the car.

It's difficult to do the oil seal that way though!

Do the circlips fit in two grooves within the quill shaft housing? I'm just pondering investigating my car's quill shaft bearing... Picking up vibration at 60mph, again, which may of course be a propshaft UJ or even the gearbox mount, but both are only a few thousand miles old...or it could be a sticky sliding joint at the rear of the prop...

Yes, Jim, the bearing is just behind the prop flange and is held in with a circlip each side of it.

I've got one in bits on the bench at the moment - I'll try and photograph it tonight.

Thanks Mike! Others over on the CT forum have suggested that driveshaft UJs might be to blame too...

Photos of the diff extension without quill shaft or bearing. The inner circlip can easily be seen.
