Blog update.

#1 Post by CAR »

For those of you who follow the members blogs on this website, I thought I would start a thread just to alert people of updates to those blogs.

Blogs are accessed via the website homepage, but there is no alert to let you know of an update.

So....I updated my blog last night!

Our illustrious SIXappeal editor has updated his blog today, the job he did today could be just as valid for big saloons, especially mk1s with their inner wing mounting of the fuse box or dis board as we call them in the trade.

I hope I never see a dis board with wiring quite as scruffy as my cars! My only excuse is that I profess to know a little about this electrickery stuff and therefore abide by the "cobbler's children's shoes" theorem.

Having changed the fuse box, it did occur to me that I could quite easily have installed a more modern blade type fuse box with additional fuses to share the load a little.

The little job I did was on the TR, which even though it is a 1974 car, still only has 3 fuses. I suppose that is better than one car that I helped sort out some electrical problems with. That was a Standard 8 and it had *no* fuses at all.

The Herald 1200 as standard also has no fuses. Mine does now! Having fitted an alternator, the space where the regulator was easily takes a 6-way blade fuse box.

In fact, I have got some 4-way blade fuse boxes (or dis-panel!) which are the exact same size and hole centres as the original 1 1/4" type fuse box. They tend not to have the same number of input and output 'tab' connections as the original though but with a short extension wire and some of those "4-tab" connectors, that was easy to sort.

Stag went for body paint this morning!

Cheers,
Mike.

Good work Mike, how relieved are you?

Does this mean a well deserved break for a bit, or are you still buried under refurbishment of parts to go on the Stag?

Hi Colin,

Lots of trim to do now as the interior is just about bare with a single (big saloon!) seat in there.

I've got to strip the hardtop so they can paint it at the same time as the body and also see what I need to get for the seats too. Luckily, just about all the bits are available for the seats. Shame that isn't true for the big saloons.

So although I can have a bit of a breather, it won't be for long!

How's the ankle?

Cheers,
Mike.
