ss exhaust

#1 Post by firstmk1 »

im looking to get a ss/exhaust for my t2000 mk2 i have provisionaly booked it in at a firm called gastech that supply and fit made to measure Longlife systems at a cost of 420quid for the center and tailpipe(499 for full system)
i have now had a look at Rimmers(294pounds inc vat) and CW semi sport(248pounds +vat) for full systems, obviously i will need to get it fitted(2hrs labour??) do these systems fit good?
not sure which way to go at the moment.
any advice welcome.

cheers steve.

Use the CW system.

He first designed and sorted these out some 20 years ago using his own car as a test bed (not a theoretical design by someone not an expert in our cars) and you would get from him something that actually fits - and you can ring him to discuss what you want!

I would have thought fitting should be more like 1 hour.

the thing that bothers me is the cw semi sport system looks nothing like the system on my car,it only has two silencers and one of them is on the tailpipe which my standard system doesn't have. http://www.chriswitor.com/proddetail.php?prod=CW3597
pricewise i am leaning towards a cw just need a few more assurances that it fits good.

cheers ted i met you at stonliegh sorting out the windscreen for steve radley.

Will be fitting the Rimmers exhaust on MOnday so will let you know how it fits . Quality wise it looks quite good and has a lifetime guarantee. Book of swear words at the ready.

The reason for the re-design was that there were so many design faults in the original system which hampered performance and Chris has designed these out. I fitted one in 1992  and it did give that extra bit of something to my Mk1 2000 - and it is still OK.

I suppose the great bonus is that it is a proven product from someone who has been in the big six spares thing longer than anyone, has a proven track record and is a skilled designer and engineer in his own right.

Would choose CW over Rimmers having had from both albeit for different marque from Rimmers.

The CW fits better and comes with all the bits................. :D

However, the last one that I fitted from CW took alot longer than an hour and a very big swear book!!!!!!.............however, pleased with the end result.

I have a standard type stainless centre section and rearbox from Rimmers in the garage.
I was going to try this on the estate with chris's tailpipe, replacing the current semi sport centre section.
I bought it second hand and it was obvious it hadn't been used much.
When the car was on the lift and I was replacing the diff I tried to fit it, it was then I realised why it had seen so little use.
Luckily my mate whose lift I was using said that we can have a go another day with him wealding the welding torch and see if we can heat it and add some metal to make it fit!
I fitted the semi sport system and it was hassle free, we also fitted a standard mk1 system from Chris to Dad's car, same thing, no problems at all.

Hope you have more luck with yours fro Rimmers.

Would also advise getting strip of exhaust mounting strap that can be cut to desired length,as I had to as the one supplied would not have fitted.

have spoken to witors today and they advised me to go for the sport system as he seems to think it will not be as boomy as on an estate,so for £269.40p inc vat and delivery i think thats where im going.
i did ask about the tailpipe having a silencer and he said apart from having to drill the floor in the boot it fits ok.

I have the witor system on the pi with just a rear box, straight through centre section, it's not as boomy as the estate with a single box in the centre and one at the rear.
As always Chris is on the money with his recommendations and advice.
