interior photo request, mk2 estate

#1 Post by beaver »

hi all,

I have just purchased a 1971 2000 estate and there a re a few interior bits missing and was hoping someone would be able to provide some photos of what they are meant to look like (either in place or out of place).

Firstly the inside of the D pillar (behind the back side windows) running down from the hood lining to behind the tail lights.

and secondly, behind the tail lights themselves.

Currently I have nothing in either of these locations (can see the wiring for the lights and there are wires running up one of the D pillars).
I assume they are preformed panels wrapped in vinyl?

Shouldn't be too hard to make something up regardless, will be a heap tidier than how it looks now.

Cheers in advance

Think I saw something last night on ebay - depends on the colour you need, but as these are vinyl covered panel if I remember correctly a spray with the Vinyl Cote (or similar) should sort that out/

I no longer have an estate, but from memory, there is a metal rail running down from the rear doors down to the rear lights. About 1" in width, held in by self tappers. I'm sure someone on here with an estate can deny (or even confirm!) this. (I might even have some of these.....)

The bits to cover the lights are just trim panels in the usual hardboard. They have the usual panel clips to hold them onto the panels either side. In fact you should be able to see the holes in the flanges on either side. The LH trim panel should have a little pocket in it for the key that opens the floor area!

Cheers,
Mike.

Keep forgetting what a stunning cars your is Dave............!!

Just spotted the speaker in the rear trim.............. do they fit there then? (duh, of course they do!) any size limits?

Need to put rear speakers in mine, seems a sensible place to put them?

Thanks Alan....although your restoration is surely going to easily out do my car!

I had to cut a little of the metalwork to fit the speakers but not very much. For the front I put two small speakers side by side on a thin plate in the dash speaker hole, cutting a couple of small circles in the plastic grill; you can just make it out in this picture....

Basically I didn't want to put speakers in the doors and wanted to cut the car as little as possible.

Front door cards on mine are already cut, with nice grey square plastic 1970's grills..... going to keep them with some tastier speakers behind.

The rears, I think I'll put them where yours are........ what are they 5"?

Just want mine finished now, I think the fun is starting to wear off a bit now.............!!
