Gear lever surround

#1 Post by Mike Stevens »

Does yours flip up when you select reverse or other gears due to the plastic wearing around the hole? The usual fix seems to be self-tappers through the material and board into the plastic below. A fix I'm afraid I don't like much.

I've found some trim clips which provide a much more secure fixing. 624154ALT from LD parts. (They do Stag bits!) They are intended for the door cards where, on the Stag, the clips go into nylon sockets in the door, not the door itself. These alternate clips have a much better spring 'clip' where they go into the hole in the plastic surround. They even go in with a most satisfying 'click'!

So far, I've only fitted one (back, left) and the surround now stays put through all gear selection. I've not tried to remove it yet....

At 53p inc VAT they aren't expensive either. Of course, there's the P&P to add!

Cheers,
Mike.

I used standard T2000 door card clips. They are slightly larger than the originals and they cured the pop-up problem for me.

I have some which have 'reasonable' cards I think. The gaiters are probably poor, but they are available new.

Actually, having made a new rear parcel shelf, I reckon making a new gear lever card would be easy!

I think I also have a new Mk1 surround. I say think as it looks totally unused but is bigger than a Mk2. It has no gaiter which also suggests Mk1?

Cheers,
Mike.
