Fuelpump spacer or not?

#1 Post by GinettaG15 »

as my car came with an eletric pump, with the hole in the block for the mechanical-pump blanked, i woud like to ask if a mechanical pump (in case i would like to fit one) would need to be fitted with a spacer or not?

Mechanical fuel pumps just fit directly to the block with a standard 'paper' gasket irrespective of model. I would put a very thin smear of sealant on the gasket when fitting it.

I've an idea that this engine when used in other cars - Vitesse, TR6 etc - has a "long-lever" variant of the pump which does require a spacer.

What car (or engine) are you wanting to fit it on?

In that case the fuel pump in the picture above is correct (without any spacer) for that engine.
Early Mk1 2000s had a more horizontal lever; later Mk1s and all Mk2 carb models had the pump shown.
