Estate Numbers Left

#1 Post by Forkie »

Estates,of any form/model/Mk MUST be getting thin now. With todays tech, surely there must be a way of finding out? Even if it is just the numbers on the road. Watching 'Car SOS' tonight, Lancia Flavia (which, apparently,is a good looking, sexy car  - I know what I would rather have  ) ,worth a few quid as 'only 64# left on UK roads....I'm thinking 2000 Estates, all variants, way less than that....?

There were 17 at the National Rally

Unfortunately even though the V5 records body type the How Many Left website does not make a saloon/estate distinction.

On the website under "Membership" -> "Benefits" I read: Register of members’ cars, including engine numbers, chassis numbers and other points of interest.
But.. where can I find this?
It does not seem to be on the website.
Also to become more attractive the other club I am am member of, Club Triumph Holland, put everything online: http://www.triumph.nl/cth/node/1289
Might this be a good idea?

Best regards,

I expect it would involve considerable work for somebody, and that is no doubt the sticking point but in the absence of any other source, and given how many people keep asking these questions, it's certainly a great idea!

We do have a register (hence the name!) of cars known to us, but of course it relies on people giving us the info. How many of you complete the car details section on the bottom of your membership and renewal form? The problem with publishing it online is data protection. We can't publically publish details of someone's car!

...but just like DVLA, we can publish information that does not associate to an owner. With the website renewal at least, the settings could be such that progress is prevented through the renewal process until selected fields have been filled in; if a member ticks a box stating that they own a Triumph 2000 derivative then the on-line renewal form can automatically expect vehicle detail fields to be completed.

Possibly, but that's more work on the website building that may have to wait. As for publishing data, I wouldn't be happy with my chassis number, engine number and number plate being published. That's all the info needed for fraudulent activities to be carried out!
As usual though, great ideas that need volunteers to manage them. No volunteers as usual!

I have the Triumph database that I inherited of cars produced and those in existence but it is difficult to keep updated as I cannot get the required info to do it.

On the subject of disclosing data Alan is correct - you have to be VERY careful about this. MANY people are very funny about having details of their cars and themselves published for security reasons and if you do it against a person's wishes you can be in serious problem.

I will disclose general info if requested but nothing like car and owner unless previously notified that I can.
