Red interior material for 2.5Pi mk1 (late 2000 mk1) ?

Hi

I have been trying to find new original style red carpet material for my 2.5Pi mk1 saloon project (with no luck).
Originals are in bad condition: Front footwell carpets with black latex back, gearbox tunnel carpet with hard clear plastic back, rear floor carpet with jute glued & stitched on the back, sill wall carpeting with no secondary back glued on the floor.
I have got samples for Martrim, CoverdaleUk, Segal (Motor Trimming), and Woolies. They all seem to offer only material that has latex secondary backing or some other stiff backing. Orinal tufted nylon material is fine and very dense, which received samples can't match. I also bought a carpet kit from Rimmer Brothers over ten years ago, but I will not use it. It just doesn't match the original quality and it also replaced the one piece rear floor carpet design with three piece design.

I also search for red vinyl material for lower sections of B-posts and for parcel shelf. It seems that samples "matador" and "new matador red" are closest to original, but they are still a bit too dark shades.

Currently I am waiting answer from Newton Commercial. However, they don't officially support Triumph 2000/2.5 range.

I regret that Callow & Maddox Bros Ltd went bust...

Any feasible advice is appreciated,
JS

The answer is, short of finding some nos stuff, its all useless.
I bought rimmers stuff in black. Took it out and fitted some original stuff I found/was kindly given. But that was black, quite common.
Red? I think you will struggle.

Coverdale I think are the best bet from the limited choice.

As said Martrim, Coverdale, Segal (Motor Trimming), Woolies and Rimmer Brothers don't have what I need.

Same question was raised elsewere by me:

Interesting video taken at Newton Commercial:

I would like to get sample of that red surface material from their moulded carpet setup even though the shade is obviously too bright...

Thanks,
JS

Hi JS, nice to hear of another Mk1 Pi with a red interior being restored :D

Do keep us updated on the search for materials, i´m going to be in exactly the same predicament soon enough !

Regards,
Martin.

Yes, I will put update here when I have received info and possibly some samples from John Skinners and Newton Commercial. It will take long, because I don't live in UK.

Yesterday I found a Triumph 2000 Mk2 with red interior offered for spares. I am still waiting photos from that source. I might accept Mk2 carpets, but I expect the interior is badly rotted as normal.

After my previous chat topic in this forum I have restored red leather seats. It was a mission impossible to get better seats from UK even when I managed to contact a person who had good ones. They went to someone who lives in UK.

Thanks,
JS

As someone who also has a Mk1 with a red interior this also interests me as I'm missing a few bits of red interior carpet too. The carpet on the wheel arches in the boot is reasonably bright so I assume the rest of the interior carpet was originally the same (as opposed to the pinkish colour it is now). If you look at the red vinyl inside the arm rest in the back this will (assuming the arm rest hasn't been used too much) also give the original colour which (from memory) is a bit brighter.
The most interesting thing about the Newton Commercial video is that although the main tooling (the big oven and the hydraulic press) are clearly expensive bits of kit, the actual mould itself and workshop tooling appears to be made of fibreglass, plywood and bits of Dexion, hence I wouldn't have thought unreasonably expensive to have one made up for the shaped sections of carpet for a 2000. Maybe this is another good spares group candidate?

As I have also got a white Herald convertible with red interior, I have to say I somewhat agree too!

Cheers,
Mike.
