fitting an anti roll bar

im thinking of fitting an anti roll bar to my 74 2000. what sort of parts will i need and can it be done on the driveway?

You need,

Anti Roll bar
Anti Roll bar bushes
Anti Roll bar engine cross member and fittings
pair of bottom tie bars with anti roll bar fittings
Roll bar to tie bar links

Its not complicated, but you need to lift the engine up and change the engine cross member, and the suspension tie bars (go from the track control arm back to the chassis.

Probably want to change the tie bar to chassis rubbers (Super Flex ones best), and probably fit new Anti Roll bar bushes as I guess you'll be sourcing all this second hand?

Had you thought of fitting some of Chris Witor's progressive 205/400 front springs.
I have these on the pi without an ARB and they work very well IMHO, negating the need for an ARB, whilst keeping a 'fully' independent front suspension.
The estate (with standard ARB) does not ride over potholes and bumps as well as the pi does.

i just want to stop her dragging her door handles on the road on rounderbouts :lol: if stiffer springs will do the same as an ARB, might think about that too. :)

I'd suggest trying the springs first — an ARB does remove a certain amount of ride comfort.

Once I fit my new progressive rear springs one of the things I'll be trying is disconnecting the ARB.

I wonder if this is the way to go with the rally car? I cannot use an arb due to the regulations.

Hello Charles

What does it say in your Hologation papers. I can fit one on My rally car but mine is a MK2. The jury is out on this one. I think what i will do is run it on a couple of foresty and tarmac events a see how i go.

I'm finding that the whole car leans a bit too much — and I think the ARB is inducing understeer because of it.

As far as the homologation papers and what was done in period for a pre 1968 car, an arb is a no no. I am having to rebuild the front struts because they have done a great job of rust proofing the wheel arches :( I am waiting for the inserts to arrive from CW. On tests, the car leans so much, the wheels almost disappear in the arches and the sills are nearly on the floor! :lol: The car has a completely standard set up at the moment, a certain amount of travel is needed, and I certainly do not want to get any lower. I have not looked at CW's site, but would you recommend progressive rears, or front and rears? :?:

I have the progressive fronts from CW Charles, built up with standard inserts from EJ Wards. The rears are CW standard height uprated springs, but this does give a slightly nose down stance and maybe the next thing to look at.
