Looking for a Mk1

#1 Post by Garfin »

Hello all, I've barely posted on here before so here goes.

I've been a club member for the past year and had decided not to renew as my chances for getting myself a mk1 2000 were looking more and more slim. I had a Dolomite 1850 that I'd lost faith in and was struggling to sell. I finally got shot of it in August and needed a break from classic ownership (I've had a 1300, 1500TC and a BMW E21 over the last 10 years or so). Also, with 2 young kids here my time is very limited.

Anyway, I switched on the computer last Sunday night and as usual had a quick scan of the classic ads on DoneDeal.ie, an Irish Buy and Sell style website that always has a good selection of classics for sale. And this popped up http://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/vintagecars/4131410.

It was love at first sight and I got in touch with the owner. All sounded good and then by chance a good mate of mine who loves his Triumphs emailed me to alert me to this car and it turns out it had been his a number of years earlier. Said it was a good one.

Well, to cut a long story short, work, life and home renovations took up my attention for the rest of the week and I left it on the back burner til this morning and, typically, I missed out. It sold yesterday! I was gutted, even though I was stretching myself a little to buy it.

The seed has been well and truly sown now though and I feel that if I don't take the plunge now I never will. I know they're not plentiful and are getting fairly pricey but it's one itch I really need to scratch. The question is, does anyone know of or have a mark 1 that is available to buy? I'm not exactly gifted when it comes to mechanics but I have a few mates here who can help me out on that score but I would like a car that's on the road and reasonably reliable. If it's in reasonably good nick that would be a bonus.

My budget would be around £1500-£1600. I know that's not a lot and I'm honestly not expecting to find one in that range but no harm in asking. So, if you know of something and it still has a floor, please get in touch :)

Cheers, Gary.
