Any ideas on how to secure my centre console cover - the soft black square that sits around the gearstick gaiter - my one is completely knackered and lifts everytime I select reverse.
The board backing has disintegrated where it meets the trim clips I am thinking about replacing the board for a new one and recovering it in some black leather I have kicking around but the trim clip quandry still confuses as the ones that once secured mine are no more - anyone got any ideas - another option would be to use good quality brass screws and washers but I'r rather not have visible screws if possible

spoke to woolies -
plan is to get some millboard and some new clips and to replace the panel with OEM spec trim. This will be good practice because I want to try the same with the door cards soon.
They have just started stocking some semi-rigid window channel rubbers - my drivers window runners are very worn and cause the window to stick on opening I'll order some up and report back

You could make a new surround from hardboard using the old one as a template, as for fixing it down the clips are the same as door card ones, or if you dont envisage having to remove it too often you could black silicone it in place, very often a good option if the holes in the centre console have enlarged/broken out ............. or you could ask if anyone has a good s/h one.

LD Parts sell a clip (for the Stag door trim) which is a much tighter fit in the plastic hole. I've got these on my PI and they certainly hold the trim down OK.
I think the main problem is that the clips go into a plastic part - and it wears easily with the holes opening up. Fitting bigger clips wouldn't be a permanent fix as the holes will only get bigger again.
The Stag door trims have a plastic 'bucket' in the door into which the clips fit. Using these in the gear lever surround could well help as they could be replaced when worn, not affecting the holes in the plastic surround. I've got some buckets and clips left from the Stag rebuild - maybe I'll give it a try!
Cheers,
Mike.
