Stainless exhausts.

#1 Post by wild bill »

Thinking hard about replacing an aging system with a stainless one.Looked at Earl,Rimmers(15% discount just now) and CW.(supplies with fitting kit and still the cheapest-just) Is there any difference in them,do they all come from the same source, does no-one work" for pound notes " any more. Keeping in mind P & P charges, what are the preferences? Help please.Bill.

I wouldn't normally 'name & shame' in public, and it's a long while ago now (11 or 12 years), but I had terrible problems with a stainless steel exhaust from Rimmers (in both material spec and profile) and was extremely unhappy with the way they handled this.

I haven't had an exhaust system from CW but trust his products above the others.

I have had a CW exhaust on mine for many years - probably 7 years - without problems. It's an auto exhaust fitted, which means we can drop the gearbox without having to take out the exhaust!!

After a couple of bad experiences with other suppliers I now only use CW for exhausts. Super quality and they actually fit.

The stuff Chris Witor sells, made by Pheonix, is good.
So good in fact that I bought a T2000 (mark one) sports box to use on my Dolomite :D .

On a 2000 or 2500, in my experience, it is also worth investing in the Superflex exhaust hanger for the N/S back subframe that Chris sells.
Owner of a 1979 Dolomite Sprint (EFI),
previously ran for nine years a Dolomite (1850), a 2500S (for 4 years), a Dolomite 1500HL (for a few months),
a Dolomite Sprint (for 10 years) and a second 2500S (for 5 years until 2007).

Gentlemen, thank you very much for your much appreciated input.Ted,Lee,thanks for the most generous offers, but Iv'e bitten the bullet! On monday, after returning from the NEC(great show),I 'phoned CW and ordered a full stainless system, strut gaiters, spare rotor arms and dissy cap.All arrived today, mucho impressed by delivery, quality, packaging.Don't know whether to polish or fit the system, looks so good!Let you know how it fits when I get around to it later in the week.Once again, thanks very much,Bill.
