I have poly bushes in front, on my Saab 9 3 as well as on my 2000 Mk2.
They squeak. I think that means they are not functioning the same way as vulcanized rubber would do.
They are very satisfying though. Both car's are much "tighter" on the road with them.

Ok so I was a little agitated last night - frustrated with the damn thing after all this time - appologies if I offended.

So I rang Chris this afternoon - he agreed that what I've had to do is the 'norm' - he's done it for years. Says that when the load is back on and the fittings are torqued up it will pull it all back in. I've assisted that process this evening with my 'G' clamp idea. Maybe I should of just rung Chris in the first place .....

Glad to read it seems sorted Forkie....what a 'mare it's been!

To be honest I did not expect to have needed to open up the shackles as much as I had to - not helped by having already read so much about it ( a job I have NEVER done on any car so no experience here) and everything I seemed to of read was 'an easy job' or 'no issues,half hour a side' kind of thing. So maybe I was flapping a bit - ' what have I done wrong' e.t.c..... But I want to do things in the correct manner.... Hence the post....

Yes the long slog continues - so the arms,new springs and new dampers are in ( arms not fully torqued up yet of course) - this weekend should see the fully rebuilt driveshafts,backplates and brakes going back on.... ah, brakes .... expect another new post...... Have ALWAYS expected problems there.....

One thing is certain - I AM getting HUGE satisfaction seeing a bare underbelly after 5-6 years getting slowly filled up with new and/or re-freshed parts, and actually seeing the fruits of my hours and hours of labour and uncountable costs being joined together. Cant wait to drive her again after 8 years of slumber ( 8 years- really )

Perhaps one word of advice. Don't try to add up the mounting costs. 1) you will frighten yourself and 2) if SWMBO find it....

I haven't attempted to add up the cost of my Stag rebuild - and that took over 20 years!

I agree, it is very satisfying putting new or cleaned and painted original bits back on. The trouble then is that you wont want to take it out in the rain!

Just went and measured some new Poly flex bushes from Chris

Stainless inners are 63.5mm Bushes are 60mm and 4 different shackles (including TR6 ones) all measure 62.5mm

So I will need to open the shackles slightly - has anyone measure an original Metalastik Triumph bush?

Hello Andy,

I think it's preferable to shorten the bush as being a better engineering solution, 0.1mm interference is all that's necessary. However I have a lathe so it's quite an easy job to do and keep the bush square.

See my post on June 9th. I measured a NOS metalastic bush at 2.502".

Andy - I second that,well almost! I managed to remove one original metalastick bush,undamaged and it measures 63.50mm - 2.500". Hope that helps.

Mike - No need to worry about me worrying about cost - it costs what it costs . That's why its taking so long . It was just a mention in the sentence Wife is all happy with it so I'm doing ok By the way,the next in the saga is in 'general discussion'
