Re: door mirrors for my pi resto
I think any mirrors fitted (at the end of 1970) would have been at the dealers Julian. I personally wouldn't bother.
A pre facelift saloon is so easy to see out of without any sort of blindspots.
I know not everyone will agree and someone wil be along soon with details of what mirrors were fitted where.
I saw the car up at YT last Friday, rear lights were in along with the black back panel and rear plate, glass and screens and a few other bits. Looks superb btw

Re: door mirrors for my pi resto
Late cars, 1975 on had drivers door mirrors. Part number YKC2791. The passenger side is listed as YKC2790 in the parts catalogue. I would have thoght someone like Rimmers would have them. Our 2500S estate has the drivers door mirror and wing mirrors, part number 570896. I would have thought the wing mirrors would be more in keeping with an early PI.

I like the period 'clip on' mirror type that easily fits to the chrome upright between the quarter light and the drop glass. No holes drilled in the metal work at all! It is also what was fitted in period. Personally, I HATE not having a mirror on the drivers door. The rally car has one, its second. The first looked right, but was poor quality and the glass fell out! The second is superb. I will look up where it came from and post here if you wish.
PS I HATE wing mirrors..... you can not see much from them and they spoil the lines of the car!!!

I'm not a great fan of wing mirrors either but our 2500S estate and 2000 has them. My Stag had them as well and they used to fold in at 110mph!Charles H wrote: PS I HATE wing mirrors..... you can not see much from them and they spoil the lines of the car!!!

Yes, Rimmers do have them. Fitted the passenger door mirror to mine a year ago, and feel much safer when manoeuvring in modern traffic! They 'look right' too, and I agree about 'wing' mirrors, pretty useless, and hellish to adjust, whereas the door mirrors can be adjusted from the driver's seat, well the one on that side can!Graham wrote:Late cars, 1975 on had drivers door mirrors. Re: door mirrors for my pi resto
I'm trying to decide what to do about mirrors on mine.
Currently no holes anywhere as fresh (ish!) from the paint shop.
Was planning on no door mirrors and relying on rearview mirror only, but now rethinking.
Either a clip on overtaking mirror on the drivers window or a pair of stainless BL specials.
Certainly not wing mounted, they look nice but can't bring myself to drill fresh wings!!

I know exactly what you mean about drilling holes. It took me months to get up the courage to drill a hole in the roof for an aerial.

I know that feeling, it's scary!!
Luckily, hole was already in the roof so it was just a direct replacement.
I'm not looking forward to drilling the sills for the trim clips though......

Don't be such a big girl. I've done both cars, no probs and they look unfinished without the trims.Alan Chatterton wrote:I know that feeling, it's scary!!
