Thanks for the thoughts on this. I've now attached a photo now of the post shunt rear end. Those of a nervous disposition should look away now....


The back was excellent on this, with a really good rear valance. My guess would be the valance is a 'gonna' but second opinions welcome. Also can the bumper corners be manipulated back in to shape? Again these were excellent and are not too bad now.

Have just had an exchange of messages with Lee and now better understand the relationship between his parts and what can perhaps be done. Regards the light panel I think this is an item I can source. The lower valance is the sticking point at present. Dare I ask what the ball park cost of such an endeavour would be?????

hi julian,

sorry but ball park figures i cant give, as the tooling for each panel complexity varies so much, plus the choice of material used to make said tooling, eg short runs, long runs, hammer form, press form, crash tools, draw tools, lazer cutting, finishing hammer forming req for flanges and recesses, scanning costs, mold forming costs, billit or cast forming tooling dependant on size of panel, inspection number req on eash panel, double or single impression tooling, cost of priming panels, diff grades of billit for finish, etc etc etc the list is endless lol ! :shock:

is there a way of getting it pull out by a jig? none of the panel seam to torn or ript apart...just a thought :roll:

Thats what I'm wondering, could be the best option. It was a near perfect part before.

what insurance cover do you have,,,full comp,3rd party fire and theft etc

fully comp, with 3rd party accepting liability so not even an excess to pay.

can you get insurance to right it off and then buy it back,then you got the money to do the job without hurt your bank balance(if you got one) lol

I'm sure a decent body man could fix the valance. FWIW I have a new light panel , only problem is I'm in New Zealand and freight cost would be prohibitive I would think.

The damage to the valance looks similar to that suffered with the Mk1 that I owned from 1970-1972 when I hit an almost immovable object very hard in reverse gear (don't ask!). The bumper mounts were distorted a little as well, twisted inwards by the indented bumper.

Access to the inner side of the valance is difficult but I managed to pull and press mine out, finishing with a bit of filler. I'm not skilled in body repairs but it looked as good as new. If I can do it, a bodyshop man (or yourself) should be able to.
