i guess i should lead by example so ive just saved one,

nic"s mk1 estate, now all i have to do is find storage for the little beauty, hmmmm my neighbours are gunna love me

that makes my count 5, and my driveway only holds one car !!!!!!

There is an interesting Mk1 currently available on 'Gumtree' and was subject toan intro thread on here recently. I've checked cost of transportation from Falkirk,where it is located, to here in Torquay and it just doesn't add up for me but maybe for someone closer to the Scottish border..?, the car looks to be worth saving,-but then , all of them are,

thanks for informing us of that, for some reason it takes forever and a day for gumtree to download pages on my pc ( i could build an extention in the time it takes, its that slow, plus it buggers up my pc ) so im blind on this one, bill over to you matey !!!

I am impressed Lloyd, your dedication to the cause with this and the panels put many of us to shame. I too have rescued cars in the past, as well as scrapping a few far too gone for any chance of ever being back on the road and passed on the parts to help others not meet the same fate. Top Man!

ive just got around to reading last weeks classic car weekly ( this weeks is out today ).

there is a mk2 2000, 56k miles barn stored in there for £300 in warks.

Is that the Silver F plate that was Valencia?.

That would be the one Lee, didn't realise that it had been valencia blue, nice, with the blue leather. The car looks like it will need work on the sills but otherwise sound, definately should be saved,

It seems to me that long-term speculative storage only begins to be worthwhile if the cars can be stored indoors and dry.
I have observed several cases of eccentric collectors with lots of space filling it up with old cars. They resist all enquiries about selling any of them, keep them for 20 years, and then their executors have to dispose of a pile of rusted scrap.

I have often kept or aquired non-running cars for spares, but they visibly deteriorate year by year through lack of use, and even once good spares become worthless if kept outside in the weather.
A woman up the road kept every car she had ever owned in her farmyard. The earliest ones are barely traceable. A rusted engine block half-buried in earth and leaves, and a tree growing where the bodyshell once was.
