Rev Counter Fitting

Anyone fitted a rev counter to a MK1 and did you fit "100mm" one fit in place of the 3 dial gauge?

Currently doing it
I am useing mk2 pre facelift clocks as they look period for the mk1
The 3 gauges in the dash will be replaced with these(still need to paint needles)all I intend to do is to extend the wires,and add an oil pipe for the preasure gauge

You need to change the face ring from this

To this, getting the face rings off of the mk1 gauge is a real pain !

Once you have fitted the mk1 rings they should just bolt back in

The MK1 face rings explain why when I measured the gauge, it was slightly larger then 100mm.

I'm going to use a aftermarket tacho, (got no choice!) unless a Triumph/Smiths one will work on a ECU feed. Unfortunately, I don't have a Triumph tacho to hand to try and I'm unwilling to buy one to find out, they're almost as dear as a new one!

Thanks Dave, was going to do the same as you, but may have to re-think. Maybe put the tacho into a pod, but where to fit it? Obviously not going to do anything that'll mark the dash pad!

it is a pre face lift one so should look ok if it works with your ecu.

I am sure the subject of what rev counters work with mega jolt/squirt has been raised before

You could have a mk2 rev counter converted to modern internal gubbins for about £80-£100.
Give "speedy cables" a ring !

Hello Andy,

I have fitted a Mk 2 tachometer and speedometer in my Mk 1, I did it by cutting a sheet of 1/16" aluminium sheet to allow for the smaller diameter instruments.

Probably doesn't help you if it won't work with your ignition system?

I have done it to mine using the Mk1 rings as per Dave. Works perfect. I used the later gauges to match my 5 smiths 2" fitted in the console. I am sure the later tacho will work with an ecu output..
