2.5 PI Engine

Later Mk2 PI engine MG 75XXXE (125 bhp)
Includes flywheel, but no ancilliaries/manifolds.
Was running as a temporary mule in my car earlier this year while the original was rebuilt. Good compressions and went well enough, but low oil pressure and bit rumbly once hot, so bottom end needs ...

Re: Clutch release bearing carrier

Following on from this.

Presumably one would use the Vitesse/GT6 pilot bush fitted to the crankshaft rather than the flywheel. My concern would be whether the tip of the gearbox input shaft is long enough to engage properly......

Re: Clutch release bearing carrier

I spoke to Dave Picton about this today and as he happened to have both a GT6 one and saloon one to hand he very kindly measured them both for me. The GT6 one is 8mm longer and therefore stands a pretty good chance of doing the job. According to Rimmers, GT6/Vitesse & 1850 are all the same - so I ...

Clutch release bearing carrier

Working through an engine rebuild on my Mk 2 PI at present and just getting ready to have the rotating assembly balanced.

As the original flywheel is amazingly heavy and as I have a spare Vitesse one in good condition, I'd quite like to use the much lighter Vitesse one. However, the Vitesse one is ...

Re: Valve stem seals

Did this on mine not very long ago
http://sideways-technologies.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic/5167-nick-mk2-pi/page__st__40

Did stop the worst of the smoke but didn't have much effect on the (epic) oil consumption as the rings/bores turned out to be shot due to rust......
Note that the Ford seals ...

Re: Brake Leak Mystery

The fluid will be going into the servo. Probably renewing the seals will suffice.

Re: Bottom end knock

There is another possibility - and the fact that you report that the knock is present again after standing for a relatively short period of time matches my experience.

There are two versions of the spin-on filter housing. The early ones had two fixed seals - the usual square section outer one (as ...

Re: Engine dead?

Ted,

Thanks for your reply. I'm near Yeovil in Somerset.

Not come across your method of compression testing before. My normal method is done hot, with all plugs removed, throttle held open (though not in this case) and turn on the start for 10 compression strokes. While it's turning I'm watching ...

Engine dead?

Opinions Gentlemen please,

1972 2.5 PI.
I've had it since last October, but not done much driving of it until recently due to it having been standing for many years, needing recommissioning and then needing just about everything mechanical fixing. Mileage shown is 38K - more likely 138K.

I've ...
