Re: Distributor for Triumph 2000
Bruce, if you search the site it comes up as a 25D6. There is no setting up, just install, wire up the cap, timing and that's it.
Alec, I did tell him what car it was for, all I know is it substantially better than it was before misfire so I'm happy with it.

Re: Distributor for Triumph 2000
I've this week fitted an electronic distributor from www.simonbbc.co.uk, very quickly delivered, cost about £80, is a direct replacement and so far so good, has transformed cold and hot starting, general running so overall very pleased and would recommend it as a quick solution.

Re: The mother of all misfires !
Hi Alec
I haven't found one yet, I'm less worried about now I know what it is, Rimmers can't help other than to try and rebuild the existing one but I think it'll be too far gone.
I might try a drop in electronic replacement just to see if it's any good, they are only £70, whilst I look out a ...

Re: The mother of all misfires !
So, after a few more checks, I am pleased to report the matter is almost resolved !
However, it wasn't just the rotor arm, the reason the timing was all over the place was that the distributor shaft has become detached from the bushing for all the bob weights and the shaft is rocking side to side ...

Re: The mother of all misfires !
Well, I'm so glad I started with the basics, as it looks like a faulty rotor arm was the culprit !
It's idling and revving nicely, not got the confidence to take it out just yet tho, few more checks first !

Re: The mother of all misfires !
Thanks Alec
It is still arcing in the cap, so i'm wondering if its a fault rotor arm too.
As you say, I think i'm going to start a fresh and get it running smoothly and properly on points and condensor if I can and go from there.
Regards
Robin

Re: The mother of all misfires !
Well, now I'm even more confused !
Powerspark electronic ignition fitted, along with a new coil, all leads checked and after some faffing about with the distributor it ran, timing set and it was sweet.
Gave it a few revs to a few thousand and it backfires, loudly and dies - then wouldn't restart ...
